This Wednesday, April 9 at 6:30 PM I’ll be in conversation with Tai Spruyt at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, speaking about The Act of Perseverance—a work I created for the 22nd Biennale of Sydney in 2020, part of the museum’s permanent collection and currently on view.
The project began with walking through Cockatoo Island—listening to the site, gathering what had been left behind. Not relics, but fragments of a recent past: worn materials, discarded tools, things still charged with presence.
The Act of Perseverance is about how objects can speak—how they carry memory, emotion, and meaning—and how we decide, collectively, what is preserved, what is forgotten, and what becomes heritage.
If you’re in Sydney, come by.
