Part 6: How did I have the confidence to even APPLY to Harvard?
Faith. That’s the real answer.
My parents taught me early: “Walk by faith, not by sight.” Dream beyond your current circumstances.
When I told them I wanted to apply to Ivy League schools, their mindset was always, “Why NOT you?” DO IT!
That faith gave me the audacity to:
✨ Take up space in rooms where I was the only one who looked like me
✨ Apply to Harvard and Cornell even when the odds seemed slim, even with a stellar GPA, SAT scores and significant school and community leadership
✨ Believe debt-free Ivy League education was possible for ME
Faith isn’t just my foundation — it’s strategic.
It removes mental barriers before you even try. My parents knew if I didn’t believe I belonged at Harvard in my heart first, nothing else would matter.
That belief didn’t stop at college. It’s why I continue to dream big and take up space everywhere I go 💪🏾
