How I keep my hand-written notes and scribbles organised as a PhD student✨
I know a lot of people think that writing by hand is inefficient in our digital world but there is something about it (well, the embodied nature of it I guess) which helps me think a lot better.
Especially when I was just starting out, trying to make connections in the literature, and figuring out my research topic, I used to make handwritten notes all the time. Even now, outline sketches for all my writing work, supervision meeting notes, and even reviewing drafts, I do all this work by hand.
There are three things I do to keep all of my handwritten work organised:
1️⃣I make use of coloured sticky tabs. It’s like colour-coding but for my notebooks and even physical books. For instance, in my data-related notebook, I used pink tabs for really important data which I knew I would have to focus on in my discussion. In my literature book, I use different coloured tabs for different topics.
