What else do we expect when what matters is how much you publish over what you publish. As much as it makes me angry, it also makes me sad. The thing that really hits hard is just how desperate to publish these scientists can be that they were willing to take the risk - not just for the integrity of research, but for their own personal career. Getting caught is career suicide, but then again, so is not publishing papers in our current system. Obligatory to also mention is that this is not the case for every single scientific paper ever published!
