Coming from an old-school culture, getting your hair done young was often looked down upon. But for me, it’s about giving Maria space to express herself-even now, one week away to 8th grade. She’s not doing anything “wrong.” She’s learning about the gift of self-care. Learning that her body is worth honoring and that beauty can be fun…and that art can live, even in her hair.
