For the first time in 44 years, my mother voted without my father. For the first time in my life, I voted with a parent who needed mobility assistance at the polls—but didn’t receive it. So much has changed for my family in less than a year. Just imagine what not voting could change over the next four years. It never occurred to me that there are people who don’t vote, but this election has taught me otherwise. If you are REGISTERED to vote, I implore you to do so. Cancer wasn’t even a word in my vocabulary… now it haunts me every day. Too often, we overlook how policies and systems shape the obstacles we face. We must vote.
