Meet the Mardi Gras Indians also known as Black Masking Indians: a community that puts on an incredible display of artistry and tradition as they walk around largely Black neighborhoods of New Orleans on Mardi Gras day. This isn't your traditional Mardi Gras parade on Canal or St Charles Streets. It's a tradition that most tourists will never see. 60 Minutes' Bill Whitaker watches the dozens of so-called tribes find each other on the streets and meet in a highly ritualized confrontation. “Part of the tradition is to walk through the streets, strut your stuff, show your handiwork. And if you run into another tribe, you have a sort of battle of the suits, to see which one is prettiest,” he explains. #mardigrasindians #neworleans #nola
