Thalia, in white gold. The small head — studio scale, everything resolved. For the Hellenic Heads, I worked from my mother's face for Thalia. That was not by decision. I was building a Muse, and at some point in the clay she arrived without my asking. I let her stay. I have spent time with the Vatican's Thalia — the classical marble, the lineage it carries. Working from a face that close to you, toward a precedent that old, is a particular kind of pressure. White gold reads differently from bronze. The surface quiets. You stop looking at the material and start looking at the person. One of 30 public sculptures around the world. Visit petrides-public.art for more info.
