Suuvi, formerly known as Sophia Bacelar, is a Cuban-Chinese producer, composer, and multidisciplinary artist. Suuvi began studying cello at age two and was accepted to Juilliard at ten. According to her website, she later studied at the Conservatoire de Paris and the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, and has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie, and Lincoln Center. Her work spans composition, production, performance, and speaking, with collaborations across music, dance, film, and technology. She has also toured internationally as a featured soloist in Hans Zimmer’s live show and participates in public speaking engagements focused on topics such as mental health, identity, and social impact. According to a May 2024 ABC7 New York interview, she faced bullying in school and later described experiences of racism during her studies in Europe, which she has said had a lasting impact on her sense of identity and voice.
