The repeal of the Emergency Detention Act (EDA) was one of the first historic displays of Black and Asian solidarity and activism for equality.   The EDA was a law that gave the federal government power to incarcerate anyone suspected of engaging in espionage or sabotage if the President declared an “internal security emergency” and targeted Black communities during the Civil Rights Movement. The combined effort of the Japanese American Citizen League (JACL) sharing their experiences from WWII internment camps supported Black Activists to succeed in getting former President Richard Nixon to repeal the law. ✊🏾💕#AAPIHeritageMonth #ARYExBlackFacts
