The Rooney Rule has been around since 2003 and what does the NFL have to show for it? In the last 20 years, only 15 Black coaches have been hired despite having 129 vacancies. 70% of NFL players are Black but they are not meaningfully included in the hiring process for coaching staff and execs. The reality is, there is a pattern and practice of discriminatory behavior within the NFL and the institution as a whole has severe racial inequities must be addressed.
