At the age of 11 years old, Mikaila Ulmer is the founder of Me & the Bees Lemonade, an organization dedicated to saving the honey bees. After being scared of bees at the age of 4, Mikaila decided to do some research to cope with her fears and learned that bees are dying at a rapid rate.
To help raise awareness of what honey bees face, Mikaila decided to create and sell lemonade inspired by her grandmother’s recipe, which included honey from local beekeepers.
BeeSweet Lemonade has become a very popular beverage that’s now being sold in many on selected Whole Food Markets and other restaurants in Austin, Texas.
“The first thing that comes to mind when I think of a black trailblazer is Mrs. Michelle Obama, she has invited me to the White House several times, and she has made a huge impact on me and my business by spreading the word about pollination and the bees."
