#BlackHistoryMonth #BlackFacts my parents knew that many of the tremendous contributions and accomplishments of Black people would likely be conveniently left out of most of my school text books. Nevertheless, it was important to them that I learned early that #Blacklivesmatter and #Blackisbeautiful and #Black365. They believed I needed to understand the important roles Black people have in society, so I could hold my head high when people tried to tear me down. Authors like Alex Haley, James Baldwin, bell hooks, John Hope Franklin, Ralph Ellison, and Zora Neale Hurston lined our bookshelves and I was encouraged to read them. BUT my most memorable Black history moments are with my Mom. This picture is of a Budweiser poster of African Kings and Queens. My mom OBVI removed the Budweiser logo, but hung this poster on my wall. She regularly pointed to the Kings and Queens who looked like family members, friends, and us. I learned we were royalty.
