A new report is calling out the province after ranking schools and school boards with the highest levels of lead found in drinking water during the 2024/25 school year.
According to the analysis, multiple schools across Ontario recorded tests exceeding 10 parts-per-billion (ppb), with some Ottawa schools like Orleans Wood ES, Fallingbrook Community ES, and Manor Park Public School appearing on the list.
Even more concerning, the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board ranked number 1 overall in the province for the highest number of lead exceedances, with over 100 tests above 10ppb.
Experts are now warning that Ontario is falling behind the rest of the country when it comes to water safety. While Health Canada lowered the recommended limit to 5ppb back in 2019, Ontario still hasn’t fully adopted those stricter standards.
