Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Ottawa area, warning that conditions today are favourable for storms capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rainfall.
According to the latest forecast, the city could see 20–35 mm of rain throughout the day, as a sharp cold front moves through the region. Temperatures are expected to climb to around 14°C this afternoon, bringing spring-like conditions before things quickly take a turn later tonight.
As the temperature rapidly drops, the rain is expected to change over to snow near midnight, with Ottawa potentially seeing 2–4 cm of snowfall along with local blowing snow. By overnight, temperatures could fall to around -8°C, creating a dramatic swing from the mild weather earlier in the day.
