32 Avenue of the Americas, formerly known as the AT&T Long Distance Building, taking up its whole block down in Tribeca: captured from the air, reaching up above its neighbors to bask in the last golden light of the day. Thanks so much to all you who reached out to help me identify this Art Deco beauty, the last skyscraper designed by the great Ralph Walker who left our city with many inspiring works of architectural art. Originally built to house thousands of direct trunk lines connecting hundreds of cities in the northeast, it also handled calls to South America, Europe, Egypt and Australia when that was done with undersea cables and manual switchboards …all from this brick behemoth south of Canal St. Those incredible antennae on the roof (the only building in the city with two!) are broadcasting Z100 and Power105 radio today.
