After leading from the front lines of the pandemic, nurses around the world are joining forces to tackle another global crisis: climate change. Through its Nurses Climate Challenge project, nonprofit healthcarewithoutharm teamed up with Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments to transform nurses into “climate champions.” The mission: build awareness of the toll that climate change is taking on the planet—and human health. “We wanted to elevate the profession and demonstrate that nurses are capable of being leaders in the climate arena,” says Shanda Demorest, the project’s coordinator and associate director of climate engagement and education at Health Care Without Harm, Anchorage, Alaska, USA.
