Japanese photographer Masahisa Fukase began photographing his wife YĹŤko in the 1960s with an obsessive kind of love. In the early photos, she appears warm and playful, but over the years, something changes in the frame.
In his From Window series, YĹŤko is still there, standing by the window, bathed in light. Yet her gaze feels quieter, more distant.
This series doesn’t dramatize the end of a relationship; it quietly reveals how affection fades and transforms over time.
Through Fukase’s lens, Yōko’s growing distance becomes a reflection of his own solitude.
