We don’t usually share conversations like this because to us, they’re private, sacred moments within our family. But the other day, our son brought up another baby being adopted, and it turned into such a natural, open conversation that I felt like it was worth sharing a glimpse of. In our home, adoption isn’t something we “sit down and explain” one time - it’s an ongoing, safe conversation. It’s part of his story, and we want him to always feel comfortable asking questions, talking about it, and understanding it in a way that grows with him. We believe kids should never feel like their story is a secret or something to tiptoe around. Openness builds trust. It helps them understand who they are.
