Training never stops. Not even underwater. The SWET (Shallow Water Egress Training) chair is a specialized, modular training device originally developed for military aircrews. It simulates a submerged helicopter. Trainees are strapped into the seat, flipped upside down underwater, and must execute a calm, controlled escape. The process is repeated until the response becomes pure muscle memory. For CAL FIRE helitack firefighters, this is mandatory training. Our crews fly over some of the most challenging terrain and waterways in the state.
