Our name has evolved, but the mission has remained the same. What began as the California Division of Forestry has grown into what Californians know today as CAL FIRE — the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The change reflected an expanding role: from forestry and resource protection to an all-risk, all-hazards emergency response fire department serving communities statewide.
