"Practicing efficiently has a lot of parallels to studying efficiently, for me. When I was trying to made a world class group, I sat in front of the mirror for 2-3 hour practice blocks before taking a break. I knew I had a lot of thresholds to break and fundamentals to learn, so I always took note of the stuff people were able to play at auditions. I think that knowing the precise "thing" that needs development puts it on a list for you. And practicing is just hitting the list. It really is important to cover crucial, more fundamental stuff, before rushing on. That's something I've always stressed for myself, and for my students. "
