Strong side reads: When depth equals squareness. A goal that I have watched with regularity this season in junior leagues is deflections or quick releases where the goalie simply center shifts to fill the middle of the net, which actually leaves room on the short and far side. On these quick developing plays , it is important to get a read of where the threats are at on the ice. On a strong side or even center lane drive, a simple shift up toward the stick fills more net and takes away time and space. Here, I’ve posted four clips of very similar developing plays, alternating between a flat, center shift and a shift that incorporates some depth. It is incredibly important in your training and practices to add freedom and variability on how the shooters can attack the net. Your ability to quickly read the developing threats will be the determining factor on you reaching your maximum potential. #goalies #readtheplay #nhl #ahl #findthestickblade bosak_goaltending
