GOLD🥇 Austria’s Veronika Aigner has just won the first gold medal of the 2026 milanocortina2026 Paralympics. Competing in the women’s downhill VI (visually impaired) final, Aigner raced to victory guided by Lilly Sammer, sealing an early headline moment for Austria at the Games. In visually impaired alpine skiing, athletes race at full speed while following a guide skiing ahead, communicating the course through headsets. Timing, trust and precision are everything. After the race Aigner called it an emotional day, thanking her guide, team and supporters, and adding that she hopes it is only the beginning with more medals still to come.
