Is this the latest swimwear trend?!
Photojournalist Kevin Frayer captures images of masked swimmers in the northeastern coastal city of Qingdao, China, cooling off.
At first glance, one might think you’d stumbled across a group of masked Mexican wrestlers taking a dip, but with soaring temperatures, female beachgoers are increasingly turning to a unique summer trend known as the ‘facekini’ to shield themselves from the sun’s powerful and damaging UV rays.
The facekini (lianjini in Chinese) first emerged in 2012 when a group of Chinese women were photographed wearing them in Qingdao. It seems this swimwear trend is now growing, with analysts noting that the accessory is becoming increasingly mainstream.
