The Mermaids of Weeki Wachee 🧜‍♀️
Was scrolling through the Glorious archives and had to re-share this one from one of Florida’s most unique attractions.
In a small Florida town, women perform underwater in a spring that’s part of the deepest known freshwater cave system in the US.
The shows have been running since 1947, and behind the sequinned tails and choreography is serious physical training, breath-holding, and a powerful sense of connection.
For many of the performers, it runs in the family. Mothers, sisters, aunts have swum here before them, and once you’re a mermaid, you’re always a mermaid!
