My THIRD choice in shooting position during a hockey game would be from the CONCOURSE LEVEL. This is the area at the top of the lower bowl behind the spectators. Lenses / Focal Lengths: 100-400mm, 300mm, 400mm, 70-200 with 1.4x Teleconverter (image quality may suffer using a TC; you will lose at least one full stop of light). PROs: 1) Great view of the action in front of both nets. 2) When facing the benches you get great shots of the coaching staff talking to players. 3) One-on-one player battles/hits photograph nicely. 4) Capture line changes on the fly. 5) Clear views for breakaways and shootouts. 6) Players are easier to track with less depth of field behind them. CONs: 1) Be prepared for the obstructions of celebrating fans after goals. 2) About a quarter of the rink is obstructed by the glass. Nearside wingers and defenders will be difficult to capture.  I would have considered this to be my second favorite spot if it wasn't for most clients wanting ice level action shots. Th...
