#94 worked in his "office" surrounded by a wall of Flames. Capturing a nice frame of Smyth parked in front of Flames goaltender Mikka Kiprusoff was pretty much a given on any of those particular nights.
As young photographer - in the mid-2000s regularly shooting in the AHL - getting the "call up" to shoot in the big leagues for a few games a season with the Oilers was always a treat. But even more so when those games involved the Battle of Alberta. In all the NHL games I've shot since then, nothing in Western Canada can compare to the craziness of the rivalry that occurs when the Edmonton Oilers meet the Calgary Flames.
