Margaret Hamilton led the MIT team that developed the Apollo guidance software. The famous stack of papers shows the source code for the mission which was painstakingly hand-punched into cards. Interestingly the Lunar Module's computer had only about 74 kilobytes of memory while the erasable memory was just 4 kilobytes. Her team’s "asynchronous" design was crucial. During the Apollo 11 landing it prevented a system crash by prioritizing vital tasks over low-priority alarms ultimately saving the mission.
