The Columbia Police Department stopped publishing data reflecting how police use the city’s Flock Safety camera network in December of last year without warning. Previously, the public could track who was searching data collected by Flock cameras and their reason for accessing the data through a publicly available web page. If this information is still being tracked, it is no longer immediately available to the public. CPD officers would sometimes use another portion of the search audit that was removed to disclose when searches were made to assist a federal agency, such as during Operation Brightside, a federal warrant sweep that took place in late November. This portion has been replaced with drop down tabs with less specificity. At the national level, the Flock Safety company began redacting user IDs, which track the officers responsible for searches of Flock data, in every search audit of every police department that uses Flock technology across the country.
