the 5th-year proposal is back on the table again... The NCAA D1 cabinet will be meeting this upcoming week to discuss a potential change to the current eligibility rules. The proposal would allow athletes 5 years of eligibility, thus eliminating red-shirts. A player's eligibility would start at whichever date comes first: their 19th birthday OR their high school graduation. Exceptions would be made for mission trips, military service, or maternity leave. At this point there has been no mention of Olympic waivers, which multiple NCAA Field Hockey players utilized prior to the 2024 Olympics.
