This is why I don’t like gimbals👉 As someone who primarily films endurance athletics (running) most people are shocked that I don’t use gimbals and why I shoot handheld. First off, I want full control of my image and where my camera is pointing and the best way to do that is handheld. Second, I had a gimbal fail on me mid shoot of the biggest project of my career… so it’s just another fail safe to ensure I can get the job done. There’s a bunch of techniques I use to get around shaking footage. Obviously the best is to ride in the back of a vehicle, but often times I run along side my athletes with my camera. When I do that I ensure I have a heavy but balanced rig, create multiple points of contact, and keep things as steady as possible. I’ve been happy with all the footage since, and my clients have not noticed a difference. Obviously there is a time and place for a gimbal, and I still do use one from time to time, but for the most part I shoot handheld. #filmmaking #cinematography...
