Droves of hot dogs — literally — descended on downtown Portland’s Tom McCall Waterfront Park on Saturday morning for the 2023 Oregon Humane Society Doggie Dash. The weekend’s heatwave couldn’t keep the playful pups and their owners away from “the west coast’s biggest celebration of animals,” which is held each year to raise money to fight animal cruelty, save injured pets and find homes for thousands of fury friends in need. In addition to the dash — a staggered 1.5- and 2.5-mile dog walk/run — there was a doggie leap or limbo contest, a best singing duo contest, a doggie musical sit contest, silly pet trick contest, peanut butter lick-off contest, vendors and much more.
