Day 44 of the Transcon - 1 year ago. A week left to the finish, me and a group of about 15 were walking up a massive hill in Pennsylvania. We were in a 6 foot shoulder going against traffic and a steep embankment down the side of the road. A pickup truck came flying down the hill driving completely in the shoulder while speeding. We all squished as close to the edge of the bank as we could and I started waiving my poles trying to get the driver’s attention. The truck swerved back onto the road at the last second. He smashed into my pole that I was waving snapping it in half and sending the rubber tip flying into one of the other people with me. The truck sped up even more down the hill and was never seen again. I found this license plate in a ditch less than a mile farther down the road.
