Surveillance video captured the scene early Monday morning, as a 53-year-old man was holding what police described as a 13-inch kitchen knife while shuffling around outside a grocery store in East Harlem.⁠ ⁠ About 15 minutes later earlier, police say that same man had been involved in an argument inside the store and was escorted out by workers. They then locked the store doors.⁠ ⁠ When the man came back armed with the knife, workers called police, and the knife-wielding suspect was later shot by an officer.
