April 10th is National Farm Animals Day! Like many of these “national holidays,” it gives us an excuse to highlight some of our cuts in our print shop at the Sacramento History Museum. For today, Jared letterpress printed an electrotype (copy of a woodcut) from the Lewis Winter Collection. This cut was made in the 1890s. Lewis Winter made a variety of farm related cuts as advertisement pieces in newspapers and magazines at his wood and photo engraving business at 627 J Street in Sacramento from 1888 to 1910. This print depicts a mule getting shoed but is also giving a couple farriers some trouble.
