Last week we had a major win after the Trump administration's rollbacks of the Endangered Species Act from 2019 were rescinded, restoring the Act back to its full power. The Act is powerful, lifesaving and wildly successful — saving 99% of species it protects from extinction. But it's only as strong as those who can uphold it and having the funding to do so. Recently, anti-wildlife members of Congress slashed the USFWS's budget for protecting endangered species across the U.S. by a massive 34%. These cuts will devastate vulnerable animals and plants — like spotted owls, ghost orchids, and monarch butterflies — waiting for protection. The agency is currently facing a backlog of more than 400 species waiting for protection. It's the worst possible time to withdraw support from people working to protect these species.
