On Oct. 7, 2023, her only son, Hersh, had his left hand blown off and was taken hostage by Hamas Rachel and her husband, Jon, worked tirelessly to bring Hersh and the other Israeli hostages home. But on the 328th day of his captivity, Hersh was killed in a tunnel in Gaza.
