Hersh Goldberg-Polin was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists at the Nova music festival on Oct. 7, 2023. His mother, Rachel, says the last text messages she received from him read: “I love you” and "I'm sorry." He sent those texts from inside a bomb shelter, where he was hiding from Hamas’ attack with more than two dozen people. According to survivors, Hersh’s best friend, Aner Shapira, picked up and threw out at least 10 grenades – tossed into the shelter by the terrorists – before Aner was fatally wounded.
