When you’ve been building amazing cars for over a century, it can be hard to choose a favourite. Allow us to suggest a candidate: the first-generation Continental Supersports Convertible. The Continental GT had already taken the world by storm, launching in 2003. It was a grand tourer in the truest sense of the word, exquisitely crafted for long, luxurious road trips. The Supersports was not that. It actually began life as a ‘skunkworks’ project, started by a handful of young Bentley engineers. What would happen, they wondered, if they stripped the iconic GT back to its bare bones – then rebuilt it as a two-seat racetrack weapon? Management soon found out about the project – and they loved it. Instantly, the project went from skunkworks to serious proposition. In February 2009, a production model was revealed by Jay Leno at the Geneva Motor Show. The convertible swiftly followed; also with a ferocious set of specs: Power of more than 620 bhp, and acceleration of 0-60mph in 4.0 s...
