A Tesla driver said his car's autopilot "suddenly accelerated" through a lowered railroad gate in Plano, Texas, narrowly missing a fast-approaching train.
Joshua Brown said the crossing gates were fully lowered, but he went from "relaxed" in his seat to seeing the train "barreling toward us" as the car pushed through the other side of the tracks. Brown said he wasn't injured but called the moment "terrifyingly close."
While the feature is called "full self-driving," it's not fully autonomous and Tesla instructs drivers to remain alert with their hands on the wheel.
