From a small village in rural Bavaria to the halls of MIT and beyond, Ruth Gimeno always knew she wanted to make a difference. She initially thought it would be through work as a physician. She instead found a path that took her beyond helping people one-on-one and offered a much larger impact. A rotation in a lab led Ruth to pursue a Ph.D. in cell biology at MIT to research how to make effective medicines. After spending time at a biotech company, the idea of a career in the pharmaceutical industry excited her. “I loved the challenge of finding ground-breaking new therapies starting with pioneering fundamental discoveries,” she explains.
