From a small village in rural Bavaria to the halls of MIT and beyond, Ruth Gimeno always knew she wanted to make a difference. She initially thought it would be through work as a physician. She instead found a path that took her beyond helping people one-on-one and offered a much larger impact.
A rotation in a lab led Ruth to pursue a Ph.D. in cell biology at MIT to research how to make effective medicines. After spending time at a biotech company, the idea of a career in the pharmaceutical industry excited her.
“I loved the challenge of finding ground-breaking new therapies starting with pioneering fundamental discoveries,” she explains.
Ruth connected to the pharmaceutical research team environment at multiple companies. But it wasn’t until she joined Lilly that everything clicked.
