“When I was taken to the hospital in the second grade, I had no idea it would change my life. To me, it was a fun trip to some place new. To my family, it was a devastating diagnosis for their 6-year-old girl – type 1 diabetes. I don’t think that I was fully aware of what having diabetes meant for me back then. All I knew growing up in northwest Ohio was that there wasn’t anyone else at school who had diabetes. And I felt alone. But everything changed when I discovered music at age 10. If I couldn’t play, it was like not having air to breathe. Playing and performing on stage gave me a sense of accomplishment, but it wasn’t until my first diabetes camp that I felt like I belonged somewhere. There, I was just like everyone else.” My name is CrystalBowersox and this is #MyDiabetesStory. In addition to touring the country, Nashville recording artist Crystal Bowersox teamed up with Lilly Diabetes to help children with diabetes believe they can achieve their dreams and thrive with diabetes....
