Join us for the 2026 Spring Contemporary Currents Exhibition Stratum: A Layered Perspective of South Florida, featuring Deering Estate’s 2025–2026 Artist in Residence Andrea Clement and her encaustic paintings that capture the complexities of South Florida’s geological and hydrological landscape. A longtime practitioner of encaustic art, Clement uses heated beeswax, pigments, and damar resin to create vibrant abstract works shaped by her exploration of the earth’s structure, its history, and the forces that drive its evolution. Her paintings examine geological processes through the lens of hydrology, the movement, quantity, and management of water, and draw inspiration from Deering Estate’s Biscayne Bay shoreline and ongoing restoration efforts such as the Cutler Slough Restoration Project and the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan.
