I know this might make some people pause. Because we’re so used to hearing: “Support the baby’s head.” “Don’t let their head fall back.” And yes, those things matter. When you’re picking a baby up. When you’re laying them down. But this? This is different. This is the guppy position, something our infant body worker introduced us to. (Giant thank you and shout out to loveofalittleone!!) With their body supported — neck, shoulders, and upper back held securely — we allow their head to gently extend back. Which, is a position they spend a lot of time in in utero. And for these boys? It does something incredible. It opens their bodies. Releases tension. Helps regulate their nervous systems. And you can actually feel them soften. Add with deep, grounding breaths from me, it becomes a moment of connection and calm for all of us.
