Yehuda Bacon survived Auschwitz and drew the horrors he endured. Born in 1929, he was deported as a child to Terezín, then to Auschwitz-Birkenau and later Mauthausen, surviving a death march before liberation. Right after, he sketched the crematoria and gas chambers—drawings later used as evidence in the Eichmann trial, where he testified. He built his life in Jerusalem, studying at Bezalel and becoming both an artist and teacher. His work holds the past without being trapped in it, insisting—quietly, stubbornly—on life after survival.
