A second candlelight vigil was held the following week in memory of 12-year-old Khimberly Zavaleta, who died after suffering head injuries during a school altercation on Feb. 17. Khimberly had been defending her older sister when she was struck in the head with a metal water bottle. As the community continues to process the loss, friends, relatives, classmates, and neighbors once again gathered to light candles and stand in remembrance of a young life taken too soon, her death continuing to weigh heavily on Reseda. Khimberly’s mother, Elma Chuquipa, returned alongside family members and close friends, most notably the presence of Khimberly’s father.
