Residents around First Street in Keyport say an old landfill has sat at the center of a suspected cancer cluster for decades... and they’re fed up with the lack of accountability. Neighbors report an alarming number of cancer diagnoses, with two more cases added just last week. “When you’re looking at a map like that… that looks insane,” said Dr. Alexis Mraz of TCNJ’s Department of Public Health. A 2021 lawsuit accused the site owner of causing “irreparable harm” to public health and the environment, but the case was dismissed in 2022 — with a judge ruling the responsibility to manage and clean up the dump lies with the state DEP. Now, residents say they’re confused, terrified, and left wondering whether the neighborhood they love has been slowly poisoning them for years. 🔗 Read our full special report on what state investigators say happens next at the former dump site in Keyport. #newjersey #monmouthcounty #keyport #njdotcom #nj 📷 Keyport Historical Society Archives, Patti Sapone...
