Tomorrow night, we welcome Duke Ellington’s family to Memphis for “An Evening with Ellington,” a free concert that carries a powerful legacy. On April 4, 1968, as news of Dr. King’s assassination at the Lorraine Motel reached Carnegie Hall, Duke Ellington dedicated his Sacred Concerts performance to Dr. King’s memory—turning music into a living tribute of grief, courage, and hope. This event is deeply connected to the National Civil Rights Museum’s mission, and being a co-host is an honor.
