With as dry as it's been lately, we thought it might be helpful to refresh ourselves on some simple tips for good fire building etiquette. Please don’t build a fire if there are restrictions or bans in place. North Georgia goes through periods seasonally (much like we're experiencing now) where restrictions or total bans are in place due lack of rain and drought-like conditions. Several years back, some of you may remember the massive wildfires rolling through North Georgia because of improper fire etiquette. So we highly recommend checking with your local Forest Service district prior to building a fire. The best place to check for the latest information on current fire information and reports for North Georgia can be found on the Forest Service website, and look for the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest. They’ll let you know what the weather conditions have been and whether it’s too dry to safely build a fire.
